Mityana orphanage was founded by Margaret a lady of now 69 years old who began the orphanage when her 5 children died leaving her with many grandchildren to support. When I first met her she lived in a house with 35 children who she could barely afford to feed and clothe. She is not bitter about what has happened to her but she lives by faith believing that God will provide for her and the needs of the children. It is not easy for her being a lady of considerable age in a country where the average live expectancy is 47, she continues to try and provide for those who live with her.

To date there are more than 100 children who stay at the orphanage during term time and have ended up there through no fault of their own. Some of them are orphans with no one else in the world to care for them except Margaret and the other children they live with. Many of them have lost parents or loved ones to AIDs. Some of the children still have relatives or a single parent neither of whom can afford to feed them and so they have been left at the orphanage hostel in the hope that they might receive some care there.

Although many of the children have no one else to care for them, the support that they are to each other is remarkable with the older children take care of the younger ones. There are always more children being left there and needing help. Esuubi is hoping that through the Sponsorship scheme food, education and basic health case for these children can be provided giving them the hope of a future they deserve.
